Gartner® Magic Quadrant™

What is the Gartner® Magic Quadrant™ (MQ)?

Gartner Magic Quadrants provide “a graphical competitive positioning of technology providers in fast-growing markets.” The Gartner Magic Quadrant for Enterprise Architecture (EA) Tools is an industry-standard report that positions vendors in this market relative to one another based on Gartner’s expert opinion as well as Gartner Peer Insights' user-contributed reviews.

The report includes additional information on vendors and detailed descriptions of specific offerings. Gartner’s analysts also provide commentary on the overall market and individual vendors.

How it works

By applying a graphical treatment and a uniform set of evaluation criteria, a Magic Quadrant helps you quickly ascertain how well technology providers are executing their stated visions and how well they are performing against Gartner’s market view.

The Gartner MQ  bases vendor positioning on two factors: ability to execute and completeness of vision.

Ability to execute reflects criteria such as product capabilities, overall viability, sales execution/pricing, market responsiveness and track record, marketing execution, customer experience and operations.

Completeness of vision reflects market understanding, marketing strategy, sales strategy, offering (product) strategy, business model, vertical/industry strategy, innovation and geographic strategy.

Why it matters

The Gartner MQ helps companies:

  • Educate themselves on competing technology providers and their ability to deliver what end users require
  • Understand the competitive positioning of technology providers and the strategies they're using to compete
  • Compare a technology provider’s strengths and challenges meeting specific business needs
