The Role of Enterprise Architects in M&A

Mergers & acquisitions (M&A) and carve-outs are efficient ways for companies to stay competitive and grow by expanding their product offerings and services, reach new customers, or divest themselves from businesses not strategic to their organization.

In 2021 and beyond, industry experts predict an accelerated pace of M&A activities to increase, offsetting the recent downturn for M&A deals due to the pandemic's global economic impact. Amidst these unprecedented times, LeanIX fielded a survey to its worldwide customers and found a common thread, whether it be a merger, acquisition, or carve-out. Enterprise architects are essential drivers for an organization's success with M&A activities.

The new report reveals a number of key findings:

  • 80% of enterprise architects are involved with M&A activities.
  • Nearly 90% of EA respondents said they were heavily involved during the post-merger integration (PMI) stage.
  • IT transparency, application rationalization, developing a target IT landscape, building a common business capability map, and developing scenarios during PMI were among the top uses cases EAs believe they contribute the most.

Read the new report and learn how EAs play a significant role in M&A.
