End-of-support tech can be a hidden impediment to delivery. Discover how integrating SAP LeanIX with Jira Service Management can surface key issues.
End-of-support tech can arise completely without warning and have an instant impact on your operations. The risk of an essential part of your tech stack ceasing to function is something you need to be prepared to mitigate long in advance of it arising.
It’s that feeling of driving along a highway at top speed and suddenly losing power from your engine, or control of your steering. In a car or in a tech-first company, this can be catastrophic.
You need to have as complete a view of your IT landscape as possible to be able to see the risks of end-of-support tech before it blocks your delivery. That’s why we’ve added an integration to Jira Service Management (JSM) to the SAP LeanIX Obsolescence Risk Management solution.
Obsolescence risk management
Catastrophic failure is, of course, the most-extreme risk when an organization allows its technology to become obsolete, but that is just the worst-case scenario. The person-hours and resources your organization puts into the maintenance of obsolete tech draining your bottom line is the more-common problem.
A Forrester survey of 1,000 VP-level executives saw 65% of survey respondents believe outdated technology is a main cause of risk during and after transformation. Clearly, organizations need to deal with their aging technology.
However, finding and removing the end-of-support technology that's holding back your organization is easier said than done. This is even more difficult when you want to empower your teams with an effective decentralized solution to manage their assets.
The greater visibility you can gain on your IT landscape, the more you can surface the outdated tech that’s holding you back. This is why we’ve created a range of integrations to connect our SAP LeanIX Obsolescence Risk Management solution to as much of your IT documentation as possible.
The latest integration we’ve created is to Jira Service Management.
Jira Service Management
Jira is, of course, best known for its Agile project management solution, but Jira Service Management (JSM) is a rapidly growing alternative to centralized IT asset management platforms or configuration management databases (CMDBs).
There are numerous advantages to JSM, as users will be aware. Hosting your IT assets in an external system, however, necessitates creating integrations and connections to your broader IT portfolio to ensure your documentation doesn’t become isolated from reality.
When your IT assets and documentation are separated from your IT portfolio, issues begin to develop. You may find blind spots around dependencies, lifecycle risk, and alignment around how Jira assets power critical applications in the business.
To make sure you maintain visibility of these areas, you need to ensure your application portfolio map and IT configuration database are aligned with your assets in JSM. Now, you can do that out of the box with SAP LeanIX.
Two-way integration between SAP LeanIX and JSM
We're excited to announce our new, out-of-the-box integration that brings your Jira asset information directly into SAP LeanIX. This isn't just a one-way sync, however, it's a complete, intelligent bridge between your asset management and your enterprise architecture planning.
As soon as you implement the integration, SAP LeanIX will begin to discover and ingest your Jira assets into its inventory as IT component fact sheets without manual effort from you, or altering your existing information. It will also map the relations between different Jira software and hardware assets, and IT components and applications in SAP LeanIX, as well as which system owns the relationship, giving you complete dependency visibility.
You can then connect the discovered Jira assets to the reference catalog in the SAP LeanIX Obsolescence Risk Management solution. You’ll then receive automated insights on end-of-support and obsolescence risk.
This allows you to align your asset documentation across your repositories. With a complete overview of how hardware and software connects, you can improve your application lifecycle management and architecture oversight. You can then align all your asset documentation across your repositories. Getting started with JSM integration
The new integration between Jira Service Management and SAP LeanIX allows you to expand your application portfolio management, obsolescence risk monitoring, and strategic alignment between teams to your assets in JSM. This ensures you aren’t leaving this important tool out of your portfolio.
Best of all, this means that you can stop saying ‘no’ to your teams. You can now give them the freedom to build and create in JSM without worrying about losing oversight of what they’re working on.
So, how do you get started? Our new integration will work for any SAP LeanIX instance, so long as you also have JSM Premium or Enterprise.
As soon as you implement the integration, new assets will be continually discovered and ingested without overwriting existing data. This means you can have peace of mind about data security.
